In the wake of the tragic bombing at the Boston Marathon yesterday, our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with all those affected. The faculty and staff of The Difficult Airway Courses are deeply saddened by this tragic event. We are heartened, though, by the quick, professional response of medical personnel both on site and in Boston's many Emergency Departments.
As Dr. Ron Walls, one of our founders and Chair of Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital stated, "I don't know if you can ever prepare for something like this, but if you can, we were. This is what we do every day, we take care of patients with bad trauma. We have drilled for this type of event citywide and in our hospital over and over and over again, the whole time hoping we were never going to use it. But we were ready." We are thankful and proud that so many were ready when they were needed most.
